The ArtSpace Gallery is filled with paintings by our very own Art Professor, Zaiga Thorson, and pottery by her good friend Lori Roderick! In their group show “Transitions”, the artist's work compliments each other in color, and organic style. When talking about their work, the two mentioned that they never planned for their pieces to compliment each other so well. Lori focused her artist talk on how she became an artist in pottery, and had a beautiful message to those who attended the reception. Lori’s message was that we use art every day in the way we think as artists even when we are not physically making art. Zaiga focused her work on the light she tries to bring on dark times in her life, and the meaning of family, especially symbolism of her Latvian parents. Besides going to art as an outlet, Zaiga closed her artist talk with emphasizing on doing what you love no matter what anyone says. Lori and Zaiga inspired many who came to the reception, and it was lovely to support our own Black Hawk Professor! Both artists gave great talks, answered questions, and even spent time chatting with attendees after the show. Thank you Zaiga, and Lori for showing us pieces of you that we can all enjoy!
The ArtSpace Gallery at the Quad-Cities Campus is exhibiting “Transitions” by Lori Roderick (ceramics) and BHC art professor Zaiga Thorson (paintings). The work will be on display from Monday, Oct. 2 through Friday, Nov. 3. Everyone is invited to a reception with the artists from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. This is a great opportunity to ask the artists questions and gain insight on their work. The ArtSpace Gallery is located on the first floor of Building 4.
For the Fall 2017 semester, the art lab will be open Tuesday (12:30-4:00pm), Thursday (12:00-4:00pm), Saturday (9:00 am - 1:00 pm) and Sunday (12:00-3:00pm). These hours are in addition to regular business hours. You may also work in the computer lab during normal business hours when it does not interfere with the classes being held. On weekends, you will need to enter from building 3, at the entrance near public safety. Be sure to check the BHC art blog for additional art lab hours and holiday hours.
